The Library of Parliament is one of the most beautiful legislative libraries in the world. It dates back to the 1870s when the legislatures of Upper and Lower Canada created their own libraries.
The Library of Parliament offers information, references, and research services to Members of the House of Commons, the Senate, and their staffs. The library holds thousands of government documents, books, brochures, microfilms, press clippings, newspapers, and videotapes. It provides its services to all Members, Members of Parliamentary committees, Cabinet Ministers, and government agencies. Reference librarians get about 250 requests for information from these groups everyday.
